The question isn't when the weather is good. The weather is good from May through October. The question is when you'll have the best ratio of warm water, manageable crowds, and boats available.
June and September: The Sweet Spots
June: Water's warmed up to 23-24°C. The superyachts haven't fully clogged Ses Salines yet. Marinas have space. Prices are 20-30% below peak.
September: Same water temperature as August, half the mooring competition. The charter fleets still have full staff and maintained boats. Many locals' favorite month.
July and August: What You're Getting Into
Peak season means peak everything. Moorings at Cala Comte are full by 10am. The beach clubs require reservations two weeks out. The water is warm (26-27°C) but you'll share it.
If this is when you can come, book early—like, March—and let us handle the mooring reservations. We know which captains have standing arrangements at which clubs.
May and October: The Edges
May: Water's still cold (19-20°C) but manageable. The island is quiet. Some beach clubs haven't opened yet. Best for sailing purists who care more about wind than swimming.
October: Same water temp as May, but the island is winding down. Some restaurants close mid-month. Storms are more likely—nothing dangerous, but you might lose a day to rain. Prices drop 40%.
Wind Patterns That Matter
We don't say "Mediterranean climate." We say Tramontana, Levante, and thermal breezes.
- Tramontana: North wind, 10-25 knots, builds in afternoon. West coast anchorages get rough.
- Levante: East wind, warmer, 5-15 knots. East coast exposed; west coast protected.
- Thermal breeze: Most summer afternoons, 10-15 knots from SW, predictable and pleasant.
- Mistral: NW wind, less common, can blow 30+ knots for 2-3 days. Stay in port.
We check the forecast morning-of and adjust. Strong Tramontana means north coast instead of west. Levante building means leave Cala d'Hort early. You don't need to know the names—you just need a captain who does.
